[...A feed during the attack? Seriously? There's only a brief glimpse of gold eyes beneath a hood before the SFC is tilted so only one of the kraken's tentacles can be seen. It takes five seconds before a deep, almost blank voice filters through the darkness.]

What do you do when you've been lost to despair. [A pause as disks of light(?) are tossed at it from behind the speaker.] What is it that you do when you lose sight of the hope you'd kept alive until now and realize that you don't have what it takes to protect others by your own power?

[He's silent for a long while, seemingly focused on dodging the retaliatory actions of the attacked appendage... until a black hand suddenly shoots electric shocks of the same white and pale blue energy at a now writhing mass of flesh.]

Tell me... What does one do with oneself then-?!

[Rep isn't even paying attention to the SFC at this point; he's been grudgingly patched up by Mami and is now trying desperately to get the appearance of Zexion to go away at the edge of the city, somewhere he thinks no one will come looking for him.

When his efforts routinely fail, and he realizes all he's doing is expending magical power, he starts to get vocal - and angry.]

[It's just too bad that another figure was nearby, hood up to disguise both appearance and scent. However, it doesn't cause him to be blind nor deaf. That scent...

He just stares from the shadows a moment, eyebrow raised.] What isn't working?

[Shock doesn't begin to describe his expression - hood down, he spins to face the voice while going into a defensive pose. However, he stares a bit longer, smells a bit longer, and then his eyes go wide.]

[Katsu's voice is tired, still a bit echo-y because he's not trying to hide it anymore.]

You trust that you can pull yourself out of it - and if you can't, you let others help pull you out of it.

I guess....all you really can do is keep moving forward. Even if you don't have what it takes to protect the people you care about, it feels a lot worse to know you didn't do all you could for them.

[He still listens as he hovers there, at least. It shifts so the hood is visible, as is the creature's chest behind him. This... really is all he can do, and he hates it almost as much as the pain she just described.]

I don't know... Sometimes I wonder if falling like this is truly the lesser of two evils.

It's too bad that you feel that way.

If you want to disregard all of this, then go ahead. But I remember something from....well, I'm not really sure when it was. My friend was in danger, but I didn't do everything I could to help them out. In the end, things just got worse, and I regretted what happened with all my heart. Recently, though, one of my friends had her life threatened. That time I made sure to do everything in my power to help out. We all did, really. Things still didn't turn out like we wanted, but I didn't regret the outcome as much.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... in my opinion, it's gonna hurt either way, but letting everything fall apart without doing anything is what ends up hurting the most.

[Riku's hold on himself and the SFC waver slightly as the creature behind him attacks, heart constricting in his chest at the very thought. He'd become monster in his own eyes... so how could he face someone else like this, let alone those he knew and trusted?]

...I can't. [The tone just doesn't match the voice; scared and conflicted, in a voice that was always overconfident and arrogant.]
